Iftar is a cherished tradition that brings people together, yet many face challenges in celebrating. Donations are distributed through trusted organisations to ensure vulnerable communities receive nutritious meals.
Community Donations & Food Distribution
Our volunteers help distribute meals and grocery boxes, particularly during major festivals, bringing nourishment and cheer to underserved communities. Additionally, we provide grocery boxes at NKF health screenings and in the aftermath of disasters, providing relief upon people’s return home from relief centres. In times of crisis, we adapt our efforts to provide food aid while ensuring safety remains a priority.

Food waste is a pressing issue, with a significant amount ending up in landfills despite widespread food insecurity. The pandemic has further exposed the imbalance between food surplus and hunger. To address this, we have introduced initiatives to reduce waste, enhance sustainability, and improve food accessibility.
Food Composting
Food decomposition in landfills generates greenhouse gases. To reduce this impact, we engage composting facilities and operate composting machines at selected properties, transforming food scraps into organic compost. This sustainable alternative to chemical fertilisers helps cultivate greener spaces across our developments.

A key initiative is its meal packaging programme, which mobilises volunteers to provide nutritious meals for those in need. Each meal supports a child’s learning, enhances an adult’s productivity, and aids a patient’s recovery, offering crucial reinforcement against food insecurity.
Meal Packathon
At Sunway we host meal packathons, uniting employees, student volunteers as well as the community to assemble nutritious meal packs. Each contains rice, lentils, dehydrated vegetables, and essential vitamins, helping to improve focus, energy levels, and overall well-being. This hands-on initiative not only expands the NGO’s meal distribution capacity but also transforms compassion into action.
Mission Trips
Beyond meal packing, we have visited remote and underprivileged communities, including indigenous groups, to gain deeper insight into food insecurity and the need for sustainable aid. These experiences reinforce our commitment to long-term solutions and the real-life impact of our support.
